I was translating this on the fly and only remembered a more appropriate term halfway through posting.

There's a couple of typos here and there, but I'm not going to list those.
The reverse penholder backhand=I checked around a little more and nothing seems to indicate I translated this wrongly. It's defined as a way to mitigate the weaknesses of the penholder grip specifically for the same troubles Kuroba was going through in her match with Pitari.
Furthermore, the Kamiya sisters have a history with backhand smashes so it makes dramatic sense that Kuroba would use it.Small piece of triviaPitari might be a pun on "pittari", meaning "precisely", "exactly". Her shots show incredible accuracy and she uses "surudoi" (meaning "sharp", "cutting") frequently in her discourse.
The school is named "Imperial swan" and the idol group is called "black swan". A black swan is the moniker for something unpredictable.
Statistically speaking, most swans are white, but that doesn't mean there can't be a black swan. A black swan is a one in a million event, usually with far-reaching consequences.
Hakurogi Kuroba. The kanji in her name are "White"-"Dew/Expose"-"Tree" (Hakurogi) "Black"-"Wing/Feather" (Kuroba). At first glance, there's not much to say about "Hakurogi", maybe that although it has the kanji for "White" (
Hakurogi), the reading of the full name hides "Black" (Ha
kurogi) in it.
As for Kuroba, although the "feather/wing" kanji is used, signifying the color of their idol group and attachment to birds (the swan), you can also read it as "Dark" (kuro) "Horse" (ba).
All of this to say, the Teikoku Academy Affiliated Middle School Table Tennis Club is the dark horse of the story.

Can anyone tell me what's the situation on TL'ing this manga? Is there another translator already working on it? Should I translate the next chapter and dump it as well? I'm not possessive about these things, so if the old team is back together then I'd rather use my time on something else.
Quick notesAs some of you probably noticed, the first part of the manga mirrors a lot of set pieces of the first chapter of the first serialization. I attempted to be as faithful to the original translations as possible.
Again, reminder that I'm not an expert in table tennis lingo and what little research I made could have compromised this translation on a technical level.

"Stretch out to infinity". The original doesn't word it as such, using the term for "widen". A closer term would be "unravel" but considering the pacing of the manga, "unravel" doesn't really express how long those 0.3 seconds are stretched

There's no need to specify "double inverted", I'd assumed both sides are the same on a shakehand racket unless specified otherwise. But you could put "Inverted-Inverted" on everyone but hanabi, since it's not a spoken line.
Also for Hanabi you could say "Close-to-the-Table Attacker", but counter-hitter is her style for sure.
Pic related has good TL too.
I think "close distance" sounds just fine, I've just always heard "close to the table" personally.
I feel like you'd really need to ask someone with experience with Japanese and English speaking players for it to be perfect, because I'm sure the terminology isn't 1:1.

Palindromes work nicely, but how to go about translating that? "Bamboo grove o'bamboo" would bring across the literal meaning while retaining some of Christine's fluster, but it's a bit of a tongue twister, plus it loses its palindromic properties. BAMBMAB? TAKEYABUTAKEYA, translator's note and call it a day (I prefer this option)?

First of all, Kiruka is talking exclusively about the city tournament. She makes no mention of nationals.
Secondly, I left this part intentionally vague. That's because the word usage by Kiruka here is much the same as the word usage in

If my timing happens to be good, you can get them out in halves if you'd like.
