Chapter 2 part 2 will come after a brief pause.
Meanwhile, don't forget about Asano's exposure dollars, here:

Kururi uses "desu" a lot. The anime made the "controversial" decision to parlay that into "death", which is a creative touch I'm not entirely against but decided to drop and only use when contextually appropriate. In this case, when Kururi dropped the deadliest of all death flags here
>>4985 I decided to use it. Everywhere else I left it out but in hindsight (just 5 minutes after translating… Impressive!) I could have left it in as "desu".

Ah!
That reminds me, isn't England where table tennis was invented?

Koyori:
INVENTED!?
SO YOU'RE STRONG!?
SO YOU REALLY ARE STRONG AT TABLE TENNIS!!?
I… I-I'm sorry…
Agari:
When it comes to table tennis, this girls gets too excited…
Christine:
The table tennis is not as big in the England as in Japan.
I only ever played the table tennis when I arrived to Japan.
But
————————————————-
*Your guess is as good as yours. Maybe mixing japanese and english? Take a cab (that's been) roasted? Tah keyabb yaketa? I made it appear as if they were words in the Christine speech bubble, but I merged them all together in the Agari speech bubble.
Concerning Christine's eyes, 碧い could be green or blue, as usual for the japanese, but going by their track record, English characters have blue eyes. It's the italians that have green eyes. If you have blue eyes, you know how they can become green sometimes, or vice-versa, so there's that too. Tourquoise? I didn't want to go with too fancy a word.

Never forget Asano's exposure dollars:
https://storia.takeshobo.co.jp/_files/shakunetsuno/02_2/I toned down the awkwardness in Christine's speech in the end to leave room for the drama to have impact.

>>4995>*Your guess is as good as yours.タケヤブヤケタ is a standard example of a 回文. A タケヤブ is a place where lots of bamboo is growing. Palindromes seem to be a character trait since in one of the earlier panels her bowing sound effect is ペコリコペ. There might also be a connection to もるも. Also as a final TL note, Morumo probably comes from モルモット, which means guinea pig.

>>4991>>5012>It makes zero sense, I can only assume that the translator worked on Symphogear previouslyI always assumed it was the best compromise the translator could reach to bring the "desu" tic accross, by somehow tying it up with Kururi's goth loli aesthetic (which we hardly get to see because she's almost always in her practice uniform). In my opinion, the big victim of the anime translation was Hokuto.
>>5006>ペコリコペI was aware of the guinea pig thing, but silly me had me reading that as ペコリペコ. Another (cute?) thing I noticed is that Mejirosaka's shirt's buttons are designed to look like the eyes of the mejoro birds (white-eye birds).
Palindromes work nicely, but how to go about translating that? "Bamboo grove o'bamboo" would bring across the literal meaning while retaining some of Christine's fluster, but it's a bit of a tongue twister, plus it loses its palindromic properties. BAMBMAB? TAKEYABUTAKEYA, translator's note and call it a day (I prefer this option)?
>>5012>What's Kiruka's second bubble? Something about Group F?Wow, I completely meshed the translation of both speech bubbles together but that was not at all my intention…
Kiruka:
Let's see…
It's a shame, but Mozuyama is in a different block
Suzumegahara is in block F, so we'll play…
———————————-
>Would it be better to call these the Group Stage and the Knockouts? I prefer to call it group stage, but I'll leave that up to the typesetter.
>And she's saying you have to top the group and then win the knockouts to make it to nationals? This is an important note.
First of all, Kiruka is talking exclusively about the city tournament. She makes no mention of nationals.
Secondly, I left this part intentionally vague. That's because the word usage by Kiruka here is much the same as the word usage in
>>4973 , which literally states "those who
won the district prelims", but then we see Tsubame in
>>4975 and we know for a fact they didn't win the final game. There could be a system at the city tournament level that allows teams besides the ones that won their groups to move to the tournament stage (like say, the second places of each group having a different tournament bracket that repicks teams for the final tournament stage), or systems that allow for more teams besides the tournament winner to get to nationals (perhaps the second finalist of the city tournament also advances, much like apparently the second finalist of the district tournament advanced to the city tournament. Furthermore, seeing as Tokyo is the capital city, there might be some bureaucratic shenanigans in place to allow more teams to make it to nationals as, one would assume, it's the most densely populated area in the country, therefore has the most schools with the highest level of competitivity).
I decided to future-proof this translation in case something happens further ahead, like Mozuyama's death flag being a red herring, them winning the city tournament and Suzumegahara, Tsubame, Mejirosaka and Teikoku still making it to nationals (fingers crossed).

think it would be funny to bring this across as bow-wob, but what I think does not always match what everyone else wants.

https://mangadex.org/chapter/14d4adaf-c271-4786-b5fd-bbd6c171d673Really wondering how many of these rematches are actually going to happen.
I'm not sure how you want to handle the split chapters thing going forward. If you TL the first part early we could either release it before part two is out or hold onto it to make the full chapter release faster. If you'd rather TL it all at once, though, I don't have a problem with that.

>>5030>>5004Thank you! Pretty good chapter. I already like Christine. I guess it was time for the story to pull another "fun vs WINNING" theme, since the last time this happened was back in the first Koyori vs Agari match.
If the tournament is round-robin and not instant knockout if you lose against one school, we might see some surprises.
>Really wondering how many of these rematches are actually going to happen.I'm not sure we'll get Mozuyama vs the gang but I'm confident Kururi will get to play onscreen pretty soon.

>I'm not sure how you want to handle the split chapters thing going forward. If you TL the first part early we could either release it before part two is out or hold onto it to make the full chapter release faster.I can't guarantee I can translate the chapters as soon as they're out, but you can tell that, for now, Asano is structuring the halves so they have a clear cliffhanger. If my timing happens to be good, you can get them out in halves if you'd like.
It seems like this thread has hit the bump limit. I might make a new thread for the next translation.
No.5036
>>5035Alright, we'll just go CBC based on the timing. It's nice to match the official release pace, but not really worth rushing if we're only beating part 2 by a couple days. I do fully expect the breaks between parts to get longer once Asano runs through whatever buffer he's built up.
I'll keep an eye out. I can also provide contact info if you ever decide dumping is too much effort.
