Hello everyone! I'm starting an entirely new type of imageboard culture. It'd take me tons of replies to explain it, so I'll just link it here.
You can find my board (soon-to-be network of boards) here:

Hey all,
Piper here. I run a small-ish discord (user limit is 50 people) and it would be interesting to see new members join the fray! We try to foster a smaller, more close-knit community through stuff like rabbit streams, birthday celebrations, and the ability to pick the color of your screen name. The server currently gets updates and upgrades all the time!
Typically, I invite each new recruit to this server through private dm's (where the invite link is not open for long), but since this place is a cozy and low-traffic Chan, I'm willing to take a chance and leave an open invite here.
https://discord.gg/YXQ9tMvAnyway, hope to see you soon!
Note: This server is intended to be a place for making friends and forming meaningful bonds. Shitposting is definitely welcomed but not encouraged in excess - quality posts tend to equal a quality server.

Noble heroes, pretentious speeches and lofty goals. Ugh! Tired!
Well, really, how much can you save the world and sow the reasonable, good, eternal?
Again and again we free the fairy kingdoms from the power of tyrants, stop the terrorists and wipe out the armies of darkness.
How much energy we spent on restoring balance and justice, and as a result, the princess is still in another castle.
Enough tolerating this! Pretty boring good and ephemeral morality!
It's time to release the internal demons for a walk and listen to the voices in your head.
For those who secretly rehearse a sinister laugh and dream of world domination, we will give it to you, but what are YOU ready to offer in return?

I invite you sushi rolls to join the development of the hypertext adventure Miskatonic Valley.
http://hole.miskatonic.ml I am awaiting your questions and opinions here ITT or in our /e/ or /m/.
https://m-ch.ml/e/ Miskatonic Valley is a world where the last remnants of twentieth century’s technology coexist with medieval-level society. The place where lucky travelers might find the traces of long-gone civilizations and magic, the hidden secrets and an opportunity to tell the story of their adventures.
We draw our inspiration from such games as Blood, Fallout and Silent Hill as well as Dark Tower and Evil Dead series.
This is a developing project – you can participate to create your own site representing location of its world. You can also cooperate with others to make your quests and stories more adventurous and complex.
The technology behind the project is simple: it utilizes hyperlinks and static html pages to create bigger sites users can explore. There is a system of codes which represent various items and pieces of information you need to complete quests and execute certain actions. You can use any text editor you like to save codes for further usage.

>>5423>reminder that intros are actually really easy its just like introducing yourself in elementary school or some shit just like a sentence or two about yourselfFirst day in school was worst day in school.
Just sitting there, nervous as hell, waiting for your turn to say something about yourself. I never knew what to say.
I prefer sites and communities where I can lurk freely, and just randomly join the conversation whenever I feel like I have something suitable to say. "say something about your self" makes it less likely for someone like me to join I think.

>>5434Why would I ever bother with introducing myself. Sites with intro or interview requirements tend to be pretty horrible. I avoid them whenever possible. Those sites might be fun for some people, but not for me.
I rather do what I usually do, which is to lurk for a while, until I feel comfortable enough to make a post.
I sure am inept when dealing with social interaction, but I am this way out of preference. I don't enjoy communities where the first thing you must do is present yourself on a stage, so aptitude in such situations is not important to me.
No.5437
>>5435"Let's go around and tell the class two truths and a lie!"
Im with this sushi roll. Any site/service that has you 'intro' yourself are often the kinds of places where you can find shitloads of drama and cliques that are keen on a witch-hunt every week.
sushi rollymous lurking is comfy, sushi.
No.5438
>>5434Shouldn't lurking be encouraged for the sake of the community? I'm not telling you how to run your own server, but it seems like you'll constantly be bombarded with trolls and newcomers. Typical board etiquette asks that newcomers spend some time watching new posts and learning the culture before posting. Lurking. If you require users to post before entering, how should they know the culture of the community? How will they even know if they'll like the server? It all seems to go against the culture of the community.

>>5426>>5435>>5437>>5438>>5440Are you guys all high right now or something? Way to make a mountain out of an mole-hill.
This is all just about a single innocuous sentence.
We've never had cliques and have NEVER had drama in this server precisely because we have this #intros channel that keeps egotists out.
By writing an intro, you are putting some personal agency/identity into the server which locks out the ability to shitpost as an ego-mask or to silently snipe at people sushi rollymously. It actually reduces drama - you would know this if you compared our server to most others.
I don't understand why this protocal becomes such an ethical concern in a chilean hopscotch arena.
If you paid attention to board culture anyway, you'd realize that sushi rollymity breeds negativity and tribalism anyway. I love our board cultures, but to deny that 4chan and its offspring have progressively become more spiteful and uncomfy is a fallacy.

The only reason I am posting right now is because I want to understand why you even want online communities. You will just feel more alone afterward.
No.6265
>>6245online communities exist so you can chat and talk with a group of others who probably have similar interests or hobbies and so you don't feel like a lonely sod. There is nothing more to it.
but feeling more alone after? that depends. you might come across a community/group you enjoy being apart of and feel far from lonely, might even make a few good friends you regularly talk to. yes its not the same as an irl friendship but it sure is better than nothing. Then again, you might also never find such place and feel like you don't fit in anywhere making you feel more lonely.
you may as well ask what compels anyone to socialise? humans by nature are social animals, so online groups easily and quickly satisfy the often missing social desires

hi. i just made a new discord server because i didn't find any comfy art servers that i liked.
the rules are:
-you can only post content you've made
-the content cannot be already on another social platform
-you cannot post anything in the server to another social platform
i want to fill up the server with art "games" like draw this in your style, and "save the princess with your drawing skills" and stuff like that. slowmode is enabled too (1 minute cooldown between posts), to promote longer posts rather than a lot of small ones.

>>6817This is all in good jest but You just can't change your biological gender to another. If we look at it with clear unbias, the surgeries are really just cosmetic to conform the person with GD. I can dress as a monster and mimic one but ultimately that doesn't make me a monster.
No.7013
>>7012>I can dress as a monster and mimic one but ultimately that doesn't make me a monster.I beg to differ.
I understand why you feel this way, but please keep it to yourself. Setting the ideological aspect aside, sentiments that would make a portion of our userbase severely uncomfortable are by definition uncomfy and not appropriate for Sushichan. And as a nonbinary person with two transgender partners, I find this string of comments personally irritating as well. Please move on to something else.
No.7015
>>7013This will be my final say on this matter because at the end of the day its all moot.
By telling me to keep it to myself, isn't that just making me uncomfortable by silencing my thoughts? This really just opens a box unto how a feeling and conveying a feeling is ultimately subjective. The fourth sentence seals it because it personally affects you.Thank you for understanding my view and I can see why you would feel this way.
No.7019
>>7015On another imageboard, you may be correct. But on this imageboard, "silencing" things that cause conflict and discomfort is a necessary function to maintain its purpose. Even if being asked not to talk about a certain thing makes you uncomfortable, the point at the end of the day is that it's not being talked about and everyone else who would be made uncomfortable by that thing can come here without having to worry about it. The conversation was, ultimately, outside the scope of this board. I hope as a user here that you can understand that as well. I have to do what is necessary to make Sushichan comfy for the greatest number of people; it is by design more curated than other imageboards.

No.7639
>>7638If a Discord server was to exist, it would have to have a slowmode to enforce the quality of communication.
Not to mention it's already splitting the userbase, i.e. 40% of the people would stay on the board itself, 20% on the IRC and the rest on the Discord.
No.7667
>>7638>>7639Discord fulfils a different niche to imageboards/forums though. It wouldn't split the userbase at all.
At most it would compete with the IRC, but that could be a good thing given the advantages that discord has.
I used to be pretty active on the IRC and had some nice conversations there even though it didn't have much life.
No.7690
>>7667Maybe that's true.
I imagine there might be some people who only hang out on the Lainchan IRC, for example, even without visiting the board itself.

>>13517>At the very least I think there are many smaller imageboards like this one that are (mostly) free from the cancers you speak of.I try to seek them out but in the last few years I've run into these problems:
>They're good for a few months but then attract attention from the usual suspects and get attacked>this leads to the site getting deplatformed or all the good users leaving because of things like pizza spamI even ran one myself for awhile that lasted about 3 months before it went through this. I'll spare all the details but suffice to say it was pretty disheartening to go through. I know I was fair in administration. I just couldn't find good help and the constant attacks were simply more than I could control.
There are smaller ones that don't have this problem but it's mostly because they are for discussion of topics that don't draw these types of attacks. In the last 2-5 years certain topics have simply become impossible to discuss on the web without these organized attacks from well funded bad actors. I was even harassed IRL state actor over what some users posted even though it was legal and I followed every law I was required to (I consulted with a lawyer before I opened the website).

>use cell phones>prefer text/image content to videosI miss out on just about everything that's happening on the web now. I am locked out of all big tech social media by default. Everything requires a phone number for 2FA and activation codes now. This is annoying because even some hardware I've been gifted can't be used unless I borrow someone's cell phone (AppleTV I got for xmas). I can't use instagram, twitter, discord, google services like youtube, and most of the others. Some might allow me to lurk without it for some "approved" content. But I'm excluded from contributing. Even an application like discord has this problem because all it takes is one bad mod to "lock" a chat room to make it useless to me. As I found out recently when I went searching for some info about a video game I was playing. All the information that used to be contained on a wiki+forum is now in some chat room that won't give me access because I don't have an account that's verified via txt message.
Ironically, I have to allow google's shit through my firewall to even contribute here. Please stop feeding google data. They only use it to censor and enslave us.

It's fatiguing, time consuming, and as you said, certain topics are pretty much suicide to include in any community nowadays for a variety of reasons. I feel like it's probably best to just contribute more to communities like this one rather than reinvent the wheel.
So many people that I know use discord, and despite agreeing that it's terrible, none of them are willing to migrate away due to the network effect. I've considered migrating back to IRC and XMPP, even though I know the communities are going to be way smaller. What is wrong with IRC these days?
>I feel like I wasted my life building websites in the late 90s/early 2000s. All of them are dead now. No one uses forums anymore. This is always a strange problem to think about. Some would say that if you enjoyed it at the time, and formed good memories from what you did, then perhaps it was worth it. Others say that using online socialization as a surrogate for developing your social skills in meatspace could be a reason why you're struggling with interpersonal stuff now. Still others say that this depressive nostalgia about what "the internet has become" is partly a product of our inability to change with the times, or grow up and move to other hobbies/interests. One of the big draws/features of the imageboard was the ephemeral nature of it's content. Ironic how many of us very old chan users can't let things go.
>I can't tell if I'm just jaded or the entire world went to shitIt's no mystery that with our thoughts we make our world, and I've been chewing on this idea that the way we ravenously consume media about the things in the world we hate, has lead almost everyone to agree on one thing, which is that "things are getting shittier". I can go to any /tech/ board and convince myself that we're on the cusp of a brutal surveillance dystopia in under an hour, or I could go to any politics board and become convinced that my dragon of choice is about to eat the world. How much time do we spend scaring the shit out of ourselves or making ourselves depressed? The internet is definitely a different place than in '03, so then why do i spend so much more time on discord being irritated than on here? It's certainly vexing.
All that said, I know exactly how you feel, sushi roll. I've been using chans since 06 and I feel older and more out of touch with each passing year. That's just how it goes, I guess. Relishing the good parts of our youth without wallowing in nostalgia is a difficult balancing act.

No.13774
>>13738>Relishing the good parts of our youth without wallowing in nostalgia is a difficult balancing act.Agreed and empathized. Xennials and a good chunk of early gen Y have hit their +30's now. I get the feeling that a lot of us invested time online because we struggled to fit in irl. Now that online culture has not only evaporated, it's also merged with the "irl" we didn't fit in with. On top of that a lot of what we used to consider niche is now very mainstream and profitable– personal example: moeshit plastered on cars in my neighborhood. The internet will continue to change, z and alpha may feel as displaced in larger numbers when their platforms die and wonder why they wasted so much time on, idk, twitter and tiktok the same way we feel about our forums and websites.
Appreciate the past and let go, friends. It's nice to have sushi rollymous places like this to check in on, see a post like one of yours and think "hey, that's cool / i vibe with that." Make this period in your life something to be nostalgic for later, worth remembering, not behind a screen feeling irritated. This is the best sentiment I can offer, sorry that it's pretty "touch some grass" but it's been (mostly) working for me.

I run a small imageboard on my personal computer that can be reached via Tor, I2P, and Yggdrasil. It's mostly focused on math and technology, but other topics are welcome. There are a lot of threads about solving puzzles, steganography, formal logic, software verification, privacy, and image / video compression. Pic related is the catalog on /All/ so you can see what kind of threads are there.
http://lambdaplusjs35padjaiz4jw2fugdoeutse262phqr72uf634s2wdbqd.onion/All/http://l7jqnz3yfe2wtwietafoieadmgqbu7dcmzmey63ktbjtxal3he4a.b32.i2p/All/http://[200:e111:a7c7:6fee:8a1b:90a7:2b17:79ec]/All/I wrote the software myself. I started working on it after nanochan, another Tor imageboard, began failing. The design draws a lot of inspiration from that site and its picochan fork. Namely, despite the name, there is no use of Javascript anywhere on the site, yet features like a floating reply dialog and inline image expansion still work.
I also copied 4taba's idea of creating boards by just navigating to an arbitrary /board/ name. Like 4taba and unlike 8chan, all boards are managed by the admin; the person who effectively creates the board by making the first post to it has no more power or authority than any other user. Moderation works primarily by moving threads or posts (often to less visible boards) rather than deleting them, although CP and other attempts to use the board to commit crimes are outright removed. There's a public log where you can view all mod activity.
Other notable things about the board / software:
- Open source,
http://lambdaplusjs35padjaiz4jw2fugdoeutse262phqr72uf634s2wdbqd.onion/Source/- Any file type can be attached to a post, although only some are thumbnailed and can be viewed in the browser, while others trigger a download. SVG, AVIF, and JPEG XL are among the file types with thumbnail and inline expansion support.
- Multiple files per post are supported.
- Markup is minimal to avoid breaking source code, but includes quoting and spoilers. Indentation is preserved by default, so no need for code tags.
- Backlinks work across threads and boards.
- Normally no captcha is required to post, but occasionally when the post rate gets very high (usually due to someone spamming), the captcha is automatically temporarily enabled.
- Screenshot shows the light theme, but there's a dark theme as well.

sheepishpatio.net
its a bit more on the 'modern' side as far as UI and features go, which might be a bit off-putting to some but i'd like to hope it is likeable and worth poking back to every now and then.
otherwise the fediverse is always a fun time for more chatty stuff
I'm Lumeinshin on the forum and on fedi. I hope you take a looksie and see if sheepishpatio is up your alley!

we have been playing a lot of sven coop, war thunder and osrs and it would be great to have more people to play those games with so feel free to come in and make yourself at home.

It is also Rey Mysterio's area code.

3chan is an imageboard that was first opened in 2015 and has been hosted on and off over the years so some of you here might already be familiar with it.
I have started hosting 3chan again and would appreciate it if any new or returning sushi rolls to check it out and consider posting.
The /www/ board has a great archive of threads from when I previously hosted 3chan which you can freely view and reply to.
If you're interested in internet culture and screenshots of old imageboard posts you will like that board a lot.

But right now it's a baby. Please do drop by if you'd like to chat or offer constructive criticism (right now it's just me and a few friends). We don't care about "politics" (left vs right culture war bs) at all and there's zero nsfw.

This community is based around the 30 year old virgin meme. Meaning most users lean slightly on the older side and are becoming comfortable with their virgin status in life.
Please only consider joining if you are in agreement with all rules.
Some notes,
1. We try to minimise blatant misogyny, complaining, toxic and doomish attitudes, focusing more on taking it easy and trying to get through the ride of life
2. Regular voice chats, video games and media streams in a laid back environment
3. As an example, and depending on the tone and intent of your message, things such as complaining that you were stood up by your tinder date are not tolerated
By chance if the invite expires, you can find us on disboard by searching wizchan tag

No.19205
>>19204Lol yea but I was thinking a dedicated board that encourages meeting sushi rolls might have potential. Most imageboards discourage posting contact to preserve sushi rollymity (I think?). But I want to help lonely sushi rolls and the imageboard medium seems better than the alternatives to prevent cliques and avoid predatory algorithms.
There would be a /lounge/ and an /ad/. /ad/ is self-explanatory you just post an ad for yourself. /lounge/ would be for chatting about w/e and if you click with an sushi roll you can crosslink to your /ad/ post.
I have other ideas too, like discouraging posting gender unless it's relevant. I get why sushis might think this whole thing is redundant though.

I wish there was a place online where you can have quality discussions on serious topics but I can't find anywhere. College and academic mailing lists used to be okay even if they were full of snobs and elitists and most are dead now. Everywhere its just noise and rage and more noise. 4chan /lit/, leftypol /edu/ and most subreddits are just unusable and filled with insane unhinged people.
>>19203You won't know until you try it.
No.19713
>>19679I'm working on an imageboard that I plan to formally launch soon:
https://libpol.orgThe idea is to (in part) provide a hub for high-quality, non-insane, non-extreme discussion on any number of issues. As the name might suggest, the conceit of the site is prohibition of social rightists. Things left of liberalism will probably generally be permitted but I intend for the median poster to lean center-left. I want to discourage conspiracist, extremist, or authoritarian leftists from posting but moderation policy will mostly be focused on excluding social rightism.
Also, despite the name, I actually don't really want most of the site to be very political. I mostly want to sequester that to the /libpol/ board. The goal of the site is more about exclusion of a certain cluster of people than creating a political battleground or outrage-bait hub.
The board I'm intending to reserve for high-quality discussion is
https://libpol.org/db8/ No.19716
>>19713Good luck with your board.
>the conceit of the site is prohibition of social rightistsUhhh… do you mean prohibiting stormf*gs? Because setting up a site where social liberalism is more or less enforced leads to a situtation where liberalism itself can't be challenged. You could make a fair argument that liberalism is also an extremist ideology too. The name /libpol/ isn't very encouraging. Do we really need another /pol/ type website?
No.19719
>>19716I intentionally designed the site to contain contradictions. It's a /pol/ but I dislike politics and detest /pol/, it espouses liberalism and its administration is authoritarian and oligarchic, it's called libpol but allows non-liberal leftists, it hosts high-quality truth-seeking discussion and is explicitly partisan and biased.
Why? Just feels right. And I think a site in the vein of highqualityimageboard.com or coolword.funTLD is less likely to gain traction.
>Do we really need another /pol/ type website? There are really only two /pol/ type websites: /pol/ (and its satellites) and /leftypol/. I figure a third option that's somewhere in between can't hurt. That said, I very much understand and empathize with /pol/ exhaustion.
>setting up a site where social liberalism is more or less enforced leads to a situtation where liberalism itself can't be challenged. Critiques of liberalism will generally be permitted as long as they aren't from a socially rightist lens (like "it promotes degeneracy").
>Uhhh… do you mean prohibiting stormf*gs?Prohibiting both them and ordinary social conservatives. We may permit some "debate center-right/moderate conservatives" stuff in an isolated containment board, but I'm not sure yet. The main goal is definitely to keep out the far-right, but we generally don't want social rightists at all beyond the most moderate of ones.
(Obviously some otherwise apt people may have a few arguably socially right-leaning positions, so this is more an "I know it when I see it" personality heuristic than a strict policing of ideology.)
I'm aware the name is kind of confusing, but the current mission statement is basically "big tent left-of-center" (or "left-of-right"). You can think of it as nonrightchan, not enforcedliberalismpol.
