there's a thread here ( >>196 ) on old source/goldsrc games which i enjoy.
this thread is for modern source/source 2.
i love counterstrike ive been playing it for 20+ years love every single iteration especially cs:go.
so, when i heard there was going to be a cs2 i was so excited.
the improved graphics are a major plus yet the movement feels a tad off, then there's the cheaters so many cheaters to the point where some matches might as well be HvH. cs:go wasnt perfectly balanced on release so im hoping in a year or two cs2 will be better balanced. last but not least in regards to cs2 maps are needed i miss train and cache.
oh yeah, deadlock beta is going on i got an invite to it but havent downloaded it yet cause i dont like the cartoony look its like they put every source game in a blender to make this thing.

CS2 is a great game in my opinion, but it overflows with hackers. A friend showed me a recording from a match where enemy team used a cheat that caused his team to see a black screen. At high elo ranked game too, it is insane.

agreed, but i love cs so i continue to play it.
its fun and worthwhile when there's no one walling, ghosting or toggling.
any thoughts on deadlock?

It combines two genres I hate - hero shooters and MOBAs. Hard pass.

The combination of the genres is not that significant. I dislike them for the same reason, which is hardcore competitiveness with success depending heavily on team composition. And you can't control what your team plays.

I got into source games at such a weird time in my videogame life.

- Soldat was getting emptier and emptier and 90% of the servers with any sort of activity were in this really gay counter-strike-like mode that I absolutely hated. Here's a game that promotes fast-paced multi-player mayhem and the mode that survives is the one that goes completely against the game's core principles.

- Quake 3 arena was fizzling out, battlefield 2142 killed the series and everyone was moving into call of duty 2 and wolfenstein enemy territory.

- RTS games were losing their luster. AoE2 was dead in the water, AoE3 never appealed to me, starcraft was just plain ugly, same for warcraft (yeah).

I got me counter-strike source, gave it a honest try but the game never clicked with me. The most fun I got out of it was in the gungame mode, but I soon realized steam had gifted me half-life 2 deathmatch and that offered a much funner experience. I pirated portal and had my fun with it but it's the type of game you play once and don't need to touch it again. I got the orange box for team fortress 2 and that became my biggest videogame-related time-sink of the 2010s (and I only regged the game up until about 2012). I haven't paid much attention to other source games but I remain shocked and appalled that counter-strike of all game concepts became such a flagship title for modern valve rather than become an embarrassing memory of 00s awkward game design experiments.

interdasting, do you not play source games anymore?

 No.2262

>>2255
yeah once I saw the whole MOBA aspect I lost what little interest I had in playing a Valve hero shooter

I wouldn't say no to playing TF2 once in a while if not for the fact the game went from about 3Gb on release to 50-something gigs after a decade of updates, so I've since uninstalled it to free up much needed space on my PC.

ok I gave it a chance - two matches were quite fun but probably only because we won. i like that it seems there are no traditional moba roles here?
