What's the etiquette on anime phone wallpapers?

After all, if people would mind their own business, they'd never be looking at your phone to begin with. But it is something you might be bringing out in public areas, so maybe ecchi/guro type content is inappropriate? Or should you avoid anime images altogether so you don't get associated as one of those depraved otaku types?

This is my lock screen wallpaper. The clock is on her head.

If you like anime and want to come in contact with people, sharing the hobby, you should set an anime wallpaper. Imagine you want to talk with someone about anime and then you see their wallpaper. It's an invitation.

I used to do that but I had a coworker unwelcomely harass me over it and I changed my wallpaper so he would stop bothering me. He was a shithead.

I set my notification sound to Yuno's ringtone from Hidamari sketch. It's been like that for a decade and no one has picked up on it.

My coworker has a very racy anime image as his phone's wallpaper. I didn't see it on purpose, I actually make a point of avoiding looking at people's phones as I don't want to see anything they don't want me to, it just happened one day by accident. I did bring it up, but only to tell him that he should change it. If anyone else saw, they'd surely blab, and he's becoming a teacher anyways and that's not the kind of thing you'd ever want a student to see! He was pretty embarrassed about the whole event, but I don't know if he ever did change the wallpaper.

Anyways, all of the stuff on my phone is touhou themed. Ringtone, notification sound, and background are all touhou stuff! This is my current background image.

There is a story to be written about >>8361 and >>8364.

I would go as far as to claim that unless you have outright porn nobody will care enough to annoy you. People put on pictures of their children in all kinds of embarrassing situations to nobody's distress. I was also heard that most Ghibli stuff is now considered universally normie. Your mileage may wary.

Really, anime is quite normie overall these days. Most of my co-workers watch it now. I think I agree as well that unless it's porn then nobody really cares, at least in the adult world for the most part. Maybe things are different in schools. And I think Studio Ghibli has kind of always been fairly normie in the west, seen as any other kid's movies really, at least that's how it was in my rural upbringing! Same could probably be said of things like Naruto and Dragon Ball as well to a point; they've been so ubiquitous for so long that nobody even bats an eye to them.

I have an anime wallpaper but it's pretty tame. Just Sayaka from Madoka Magica. Anime is incredibly popular these days.

As long as you don't put anything pervy or waaay too colorful, you'll probably be OK.

Having a wallpaper of Chainsaw Man is not the same as having one from a slice of life show, like for example, K-ON

That said, from personal experience, I've found that people will first look at your physique and demeanor, and then attribute more traits to you, based on your wallpaper. (Without the wallpaper being the focal point but rather, an extension of who they think you are)

I'll give an example

Back when I was in highschool, there was this guy that not a single person in my classroom liked (Me Incluided)

He wasn't BAD or anything; just a very akward person to be around..
He made unfunny jokes, said stupid stuff in the wrong moments, made reaaally weird remarks to the girls of the classroom and also, ranted about his life in a very dramatic and simplistic way whenever he was given the chance to do so

He was fat, moved his hands in a very weird and aggressive manner all the time and never shaved

When my classmates found out that he used an anime profile picture on Whatsapp, they made fun of him behind his back, but not because of the anime profile picture, but because of his way of acting and looking

I never got shunned for my tastes, and neither did a handful of my classmates, which liked the same things as I did. All because we acted like normal people

I know this isn't the point of the thread, but I would like it if anyone shared their own opinions on the matter
