I love Alien 9! The manga and OVA are both fantastic and more than a bit unsettling, like the roll above said the creators of the OVA specifically took some of the themes in the manga and made them a lot more explicit, especially to me Yuri's various dream sequences (which are absent from the manga iirc). The OVA is incredible in how it turns unexpected subject matter into horror by
conflating adulthood with something literally alien. The OST complements this too, it's bizarre and unnerving and definitely worth listening to on its own. Kumi and Yuri's relationship in the manga is probably the highlight for me, as well as some of creepy and cool alien designs and body horror type stuff. I definitely recommend both the original manga and the 6-episode OVA you're into moe and psychological horror and cute girls overcoming struggle.
>>7672>I watched the OVA. I loved character designs, but narrative went over my head.I wouldn't say there's a super strong narrative being hidden from you, it's just schoolkids being forced to fight aliens. A lot of the themes and direction and plot points make the aliens seem like a metaphor for adulthood/puberty from a kids perspective to me. Things like
all adults being either aliens themselves or aware of them, the borg making Yuri look pregnant in her dream, and even the lyrics of the OP among other things. There's more of the actual story of the aliens (and more alien types) in the manga and I do recommend it because it's cool and fleshes out the girls relationships and the worldbuilding a little bit more. I haven't read the sequel mangas yet as I heard they're not so great.
