This anime has my seal of approval as the SLEEPER HIT of the season. High stakes action with a story that traces its origin to science and magic crossing paths.

And if we're talking about hits, there are two anime in my crosshairs, promising to be the very best of this season, perhaps even the entire year:

This man has all my respect and there's way too many CLAIMable hot chicks to count (you can keep Epsilon). Absolutely incredible first season with an absolutely incredible finale, now a second season of chuunibyou action is here for all of us to enjoy. Strongest candidate to anime of the year.

Rivaled this season by only one anime. An anime that has been anticipated for way too long will finally be screened across the whole of Japan. Its name is

There's others like MF Ghost, S-rank musume, Boushoku, Buta lover, Idolmaster Million Live, Hoshikuzu telepath, Kamierabi, Kikansha no mahou, Konyaku Reijou, Seiken Gakuin, Ragna Crimson and some others which might have stood out in different seasons, but when facing titans as those listed above, they no longer seem prioritary watches. Such is the issue with airing in the most greatest stacked anime season of all time.

Akuyaku Reijou, Frieren, makentsukai and especially potion-danomi. FUNA's works are massively underrated and I can't recommend Noukin enough. If potion-danomi is half as good as it or Roukin, it'll probably be my AOTS.

I haven't been keeping up with seasonal stuff for the past year or so, so I have a lot to catch up on. But I've been reading Kusuriya no Hitorigoto and Sousou no Frieren for a long time so I'm pretty stoked for those. The cast for Kusuriya no Hitorigoto seems pretty great especially.

We begin with Dekoboko Majo no Oyako Jijou:
Sexy witches and a heart-warming family comedy. Enjoying it very much so far. OP and ED are a joy to listen and all the characters are fun, even Alyssa. The onee-san witches are both very interesting also. I wonder if they can keep things fresh for long. I'm hoping YES! OF COURSE IT'S A YES LOOK AT VIOLA SHE'S TALL YES TAN YES BIG BOOBS YES SEXY VOICE YES TENNEN YES WITCH HAT YES YES YES YES!

Speaking of eternal lolis, next comes Hikikomari Kyuuketsuki no Monmon

The main character starts by saying how the world is so irrational. I wholeheartedly agree seeing how such a lazy flat slob is higher on the social ladder than a perfect image of femininity, elegance and efficiency. I mean maybe it's because her hair is short, but being relegated to serving a washboard is too harsh a punishment. Just make her wear bikini armor while her hair grows back.

The empress however, totally justifies her rank. This is what a leader looks like. You can tell she carries with pride the hopes and dreams of her people and welcomes the weight of her responsibilities. I'd like to support her responsibilities with both my bare hands.

The flat shrimp's military outfit reminds me of the outfits in assassin's pride. Actually her chara design is very similar now that I think of it. Garterbelts are a miracle of engineering and immediately make Komarin palatable, along with that delicious skindentation ZR combo.

OK that's enough talk about eternal lolis, let's get down to what really matters:
Hametsu no Oukoku

My prediction seems right on the money. MC's motives are extremely easy to understand. Chloe is hot as hell and even if she was evil she's hot so it should have been forgiven. A world that erradicates sexy witches like her does not deserve to stand. Give 'em hell, Adonis!

This show is so dark the censorship is darkness instead of light rays. That's how hardcore this anime is. I also like that they recognize the smartphone as an evil tool for evil deeds. I'll stick with it until the end but I' slightly concerned they don't have the budget to visually portray the story they want to tell. Let's optimism!

MF Ghost has been better than I thought. I guess Initial D is good even as a spin-off.

Legalized street racing with a dystopic undertone and a family mystery. As entertaining as I thought it would be, but so far not as much car action as I'd have expected. There's enough of it to be entertaining so far, but we get a considerable portion of OH MY GOD LEGS THIGHS MIDRIFF ARMPITS PICKED UP

Also since like a million people are talking about it I decided to check Sousou no Frieren

It's trying too hard to make me cry but there's only so many times the quiet self-pity will make me care. The scene direction or whatever it is you call it is doing a lot of the heavy labor in making this anime palatable. It's still early to say if the author is the type who will make a "the Ende was the friends we made along the way" with a cheap sappy callback line by Frieren like "Even now I dance in the palm of my master's hand" and her writing in her own book about heaven even though she knows it doesn't exist, "because it's convenient that there be a Heaven". But I'm also holding hope the whole deal about Ende and the demon land being in the same place being because the place of souls does exist but human conflict causes a lot of untimely deaths, grudges and regrets which corrupts the souls into becoming demonkind so the world is always in a cycle of humanity in conflict -> demonkind propagation -> united humanity vs demons -> defeat of the demon king -> world peace -> humanity in conflict. I don't know, anything will be better than the ending they've been hinting at. I want to keep up with it in case it doesn't go for the low-hanging fruit but if I keep with it and my fears come to fruition they it'll be a waste of time… Also, I find it very strange that the direct apprentice of the best mage ever didn't take a moment of her time to investigate the things her master wrote about the place (even if she was sure the writings were falsified) when they defeated the demon lord. Specially when you got the dwarf with dead relatives he still cares about. I'm also very irked that none of the original party members left descendants. I can understand the cleric and maybe even the hero (seems like he had the hots for Frieren… Heroes really go above and beyond, they even CLAIM the mimic used goods) but the dwarf SHOULD have started a family.

Best part so far is that part in the OP when the splitscreen meets at Frieren. Very cool and goes to show that whoever is in charge is really trying his best to make this story work at least on a visual plane.

That leaves us with only the two candidates to anime of the year:

The strongest contender to anime of the season is FINALLY HERE! After space lesbians focusing too much on space, fantasy lesbians focusing too much on worldbuilding, cafè lesbians focusing too much on not having any french kissing scenes, it's finally time for otome lesbians!

Watching ep.1 I was blown away by Claire François, the villainess. In the looks department she's an ∞/10 and her seiyuu is doing the best work of her entire life. Her voice is like a melody to my ears, and then she has the most wonderful personality, the way she is so determined and so sure of her unquestionable superiority is the best. I can completely understand why someone would play an otome game just to see her and hear her and regale upon her reactions. However, THIS is a woman I WILL NOT CLAIM. Because Rei Taylor has proven that she alone DESERVES Claire's heart. I respect her too much to even entertain the idea of stealing Claire from her. Rei is very cute in her own right and her seiyuu makes her sound like such a fun-loving dummy goof, but it's her tenacity and loyalty that I respect the most. I'm completely sure they'll foster a happy home together for many, MANY years!

It's very entertaining to watch Claire and Rei bounce off each other and the OP and ED are AMAZING (I absolutely LOVE the little details like how in the OP they're saying their lines in sync with the song in the background and when they go and each says "RAISE YOUR HANDS!" Claire says it in a very gallant, noble way and they're both dressed in military garbs, but then Rei says "RAISE YOUR HANDS!" in her cute cheer and they're dressed in nightgowns making a heart shape with their hands, but THEN you see Rei holding Claire by the waist with her free hand BUT CLAIRE IS DOING THE HOVERHAND AND BLUSHING AND LOOKING AWAY KAWAII KAWAII KAWAII KAWAII KAWAII AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA).

Finally, a word of praise for Claire's seiyuu. Her vocal chords are in tip top condition and her voice fits Claire so much it's unbelievable! Her ojou-sama laugh is FANTASTIC! It's like listening to a true virtuoza playing her instrument to perfection! I'm a little scared she might be straining herself with the amount of tsukkomi she's dishing out. Here's to hoping she has a fruitful career for many more years.

HERE'S MORE SCREENSHOTS I TOOK, I was like taking a screenshot every 30 seconds, the girls are all mega cute. Really, just Claire's chara design is enough to put this anime on the map. And then you've got Rei who is cute in a modest way but excels in seeing everyone's good points.

And since I'm making another post I might as well talk about ep.2 even if that's unfair to the other anime. I was afraid they had run out of ammo by the end of episode 1 and had nowhere to go from there, but episode 2 introduced a couple of plot points and mysteries to look forward to. As for the princes, they're the typical otome girl bunch I guess. This doesn't happen often but the blonde one with short hair looks a lot like me if I wasn't ugly. He knows he's set for life so he's just coasting and being cool and popular just because, but his calm smile hides a darkness that when unleashed will shock the entire world, I just KNOW IT

And finally the only other contender to anime of the year in a stacked season:
Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute! S2

In case you didn't see >>5415 this is everything I hoped for and then some. Cid/Shadow is yet another dramatis personna worthy of my respect. This is no doubt one of those anime you want to watch on a Saturday afternoon/evening but it's also the kind of anime that requires a modicum of coolness to be able to watch. Not a lot of people are cool enough for it, which might hurt the BD sales. Nevertheless, if this is anywhere near the quality of S1, it's otome lesbians' fiercest competitor for the anime of the year crown. And so far, it has indeed kept up the pace.

I think I have narrowed down what I will be watching. First clump is new shows. Middle is movies. and third is left overs. what am I missing

The anime isn't even going to get close to where the manga currently is, and the manga is going to take years to get to Heaven anyway.
I don't think there's going to be a "bad end" or whatever but the point is the journey, not the destination. Frieren really doesn't care that much about the destination anyway, the story isn't a romance story.
