Hi! Not the OP but it feels very strange to post here for the first time. It feels like a completely different world.

Are there any veteran sushis who wish to tell how they discovered imageboards and how did they overcome the initial shyness? I have been lurking here for quite a while yet I still feel very embarassed.

I absolutely know how you feel. In my case, it was the recognition that sushi rollymity protected me that pushed me over to engage with more communities like these. I realized that, even if I said something silly (and I knew I would never be posting with the intent to break rules or start something), it would be one grain of sand in a mountain of sushi rollymous posts. The more people that try to contribute positively to the boards, the richer the community becomes.

Welcome to sushichan!

I've been using imageboards since the late 2000s, so obviously my first experience was with 4chan. I moved primarily to smaller IBs around 2016, for multiple reasons that should be obvious to anyone who used 4chan around that time period. In terms of overcoming shyness, as long as you read the rules and aren't trying to have dumb arguments you shouldn't have anything to worry about! People are generally pretty nice here, and even if you're worried you'll say something dumb, it's not like it's going to follow you for more than a single post because that's the beauty of an0nymity. Especially on a slower board like this, every post is appreciated. Even if you think you're adding nothing to the conversation, the activity is what matters and keeps people engaged in a community. Glad to have you around, roll.

I was an exclusive lurker for the first few years I browsed boards (kept to smaller ones, 4/8chan didn't feel like my jam, only found out about sushi during (and because of) current reincarnation few years ago), think it can be a good thing. You learn alot, and alot of smaller local cultures are more sensitive to someone just throwing around whatever they feel is okay generic chan behaviour, rather than getting a read on the mood and feel first. Being shy and careful can be a positive trait in some contexts.

I'll echo sentiments above, as long as the intent is positive you usually can't go wrong.
Might be good to keep in mind also, the posters that stopped lurking in general have probably made a fool out of themselves at one point or another, it happens. I've gone lurker again sometimes cause I felt too anxious about some mistake or misstep. It's okay to say you fucked up, nobody's perfect.

> It feels like a completely different world.
I wonder, what might be your usual places where you engage in social exchange?

The nice thing with slow imageboards is, that you can go back in time by reading older threads. I recently found some of my old posts from 2012 or so on uboachan.

Posting here is a bit more secular, than on 4ch or some chatroom.
> I still feel very embarassed.
Me too. I have a bad habit of writing long posts and deleting them just before I hit the send button, even in a place that is as non-judgemental as sushichan.
