Dreamcast/ドリームキャスト general
Elysian Shadows edition
I am not sure if you guys make Dreamcast generals here since I am new but I didn't find any live so I created one
Soooo…
Few weeks ago I randomly stumbled upon on this YT channel Elysyan shadows.
Eminently I fallen in love with their content and their personalities.
They are making "next gen 2D RPG".Main guy Falco is THAT one techy C programmer who started this project 7 years ago with few friends. Basically they made 3D engine for 2D game.I highly suggest you to watch their YT Adventures In Game Development series. They are successfully founded on Kickstarter and planing to release game in 2017.
Also I was blown away with the fact that there are indie developers still working and publishing games for Dreamcast
BTW I just found ouy that they had huge problems with team so after all this yeras only two guys are working on this Falco and Patryk.I really hope they finish

I'm a big fan of the Sakura Taisen series. Even when I can pinpoint a lot of defects and things I wouldn't normally enjoy in a game, for some reason ST actually manages to mix it all pretty well and make a really enjoyable product, so those silly details don't really matter anymore. I can see why it's so loved in Japan, although pretty obscure and rather ignored/underestimated overseas. I admit it's aimed to a public with pretty specific tastes though.
Another thing I enjoy is the live performances of the Teigeki, and the music they've produced for both the theatrical and game versions. I've came to appreciate the seiyuu a lot thanks to that, and they're actually one of the main reasons the whole project had so much success the past 20 years.
Overall, the whole gaming experience is pretty fun, although the fighting system DOES show how limited SEGA was in the first 2 games.
ST1 was really good, I loved it and I got hooked pretty badly the first time I played it. The only complain I have is that it was too easy. ST2 was just as good, but with a lot of mechanics added to the game that improved almost all the defects of the first game.
I didn't enjoy Sakura Taisen 3 so much though, a lot of the things I ignored in the first games started to add noise in the background, but it didn't get as bad.
I still haven't played 4 but I can tell already that I won't enjoy it much.
I decide to completely ignore the fifth game; it's a blasphemy that tried to milk as much money as possible of a dead cow. It doesn't even feel like sakura taisen anymore.

It's disgusting how bad people can be with pixels. It's not even that hard making something interesting with pixels, just time consuming and learning the techniques on top of experimenting. I'm not even great with pixels but I can see tons of mistakes with these images.
>>170>1st image >The building is literally merging with the ground>No shadows to indicate lighting
>2nd image>Lava looks smeared on>Again no shadows to indicate lighting>No light source coming from lava to give a red tint to the environment
>3rd image>First shadow I've seen but not even connected to the characters>THAT WEAK LOOKING ATTACK RIGHT OUT OF A FLASH GAME>Only thing that is done right are those mushrooms but they look so good that they feel out of place with everything else
>4th image >Absolutely horrible character design for the antagonist >>226>grass looks like a carpet >Buildings and trees are flat>Boring looking characters >NO SHADOWS TO INDICATE LIGHTING>Copy and paste everywhereIt really hurts to see sloppiness of this magnitude especially when this could be fix so easily.

>start making a dreamcast/ouya rpg over 14 years ago>somehow manage to raise over 300,000 dollars through kickstarter and ouya funding>game is already passed a year late, almost everyone quit the project>nobody cares about it anymore, CEO is openly ridiculed (see: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbQaM-5TjqTjbkbmHhrI9mA)>can't even get 10 fan submissionsIs this the most pathetic indie game project of all time?
