I use Soulseek to get .flac files whenever possible
Audacious as the Media Player, although i may change to strawberry
soon
Surfans F20 as a DAC and some OK marshall headphones. (I usually just
go with earbuds but they broke recently

What do you use and could you reccomend anything to other persons?

 No.2134

I throw those music files on my PSP and use some old cheap wired headphones on the go. I really need to replace those things actually.

fokin amazing sushi

would you mind taking a picture of that PSP?

i used to have a Nintendo 2ds that i would use to listen to music on the go, until i got an Ipod, which i loaded with around 50 songs; all of dem being youtube rips…

Good, buy very clunky days

for a long time I used media monkey and I had it all set up exactly how i liked it and i liked all the shortcuts and stuff.

now i use musicbee and i like it and it does most of the same things and it has a cute bee and stuff. there's a couple shortcuts that i miss and a feature or two that's missing that helped me keep things organized and all that, but it's not a big deal i guess.

and then it all goes through an old first gen focusrite scarlett and to my sony headphones or yamaha monitors.

i hope no one thinks i'm weird for that, i mean i still like to listen to my music on my phone with my earbud skullcandies too….

I use windows media player to burn mp3 files onto CDs so I can listen to them in the car and sing along

i don't think it's weird sushi

i got to uni, so having a portable device where i can listen to music ends up being a must, but most of the time, i like to do so on my desktopo

I just play everything with mplayer in the shell. It gets the job done. Sophisticated media libraries like clementine always overwhelmed me.

I've been trying to get used to audio players that work with the terminal, but i am not quite comfortable with them yet

Where do you get all your music from?

>Where do you get all your music from?
My hard drive. When I buy music, it's either on CD and then ripped or from bandcamp via download. Other music I get from youtube with yt-dlp -x.

 No.2142

I either stream my music to my phone via Plexamp, or I listen to it on the computer via Winamp

Buying music in 2025 is wild

there's plenty of music that was only published to cd and never made it to digital distribution or into shared spaces. like i was uploading stuff that was never seen before on what.cd and waffles back in the day. someone still has to get hold of it first before it can be shared.

I hear you. You must listen to some pretty obscure music.

 No.2146

not quite the same thing but I enjoy collecting vinyl and sometimes I'll buy something just because I like the name of the band or the cover art. It's a fun way to find new music but obviously ymmv.

OP here

I also collect vinyls, although my collection is quite small as of now

They are really expensive, and my record player is quite old, (and a new stylus costs around 50 bucks, which is a lot for me) So, I try not to play them much because i'm afraid ill damage them

 No.2148

i grab lossless files from soulseek or elsewhere, convert them to 192kbps opus and listen in foobar2000 with a pair of hd6xx headphones plugged into a magni 2 amp with an audio interface as the dac. eq'd close to harman curve but with a bit more treble to my taste.

 No.2149

>>2148
Thats something I havent heard before

Why do you convert everything to opus?

Sometimes, I dont really notice a difference between lossy files and ones that are uncompressed, but just seeing the .flac extension on my files, and a 22khz cutoff makes me real happy

what audio formats can a PSP read? i have a psp 3000 with CFW on it that i'm not really using right now.

 No.2151

because I don't have unlimited storage for lossless files and I believe opus is the best lossy option.

I only use Spotify and Youtube to listen to music really. I just don't listen to music enough to go through the trouble of downloading a bunch of stuff and setting up a media player app. I do download some music but it's mostly for preservation of unpopular things/things that have a high likelihood of being deleted. Currently listening to old life new life by Limited Express (has Gone?) as I post this.

For me it's all about the price and also the ease of access that I have to the music I love

With spotify or other services, nothing gives me the guarantee that one of the songs I like won't be taken down either due to the artist using samples without permission or because they forgot to pay their Distrokid membership

Asides from that, a big chunk of my collection is not in any music platform (Asides from Youtube, which is a pain in the ass to deal with) So locally stored files is always my go to way of dealing with things

Another thing I like about being able to have my music collection locally stored, is that I don't have to deal with bloat, algorthyms and increasing prices for subscriptions (Which is a big thing on 3rd world countries like the one I live on)

of course i still believe that streaming services are a valid option as any other so keep on skanking sushiroll

I see what you're saying. I'm using a Spotify family plan that someone else is paying for so cost isn't an issue for me.

Despite what I said, I set up foobar2000 a day or two ago and have been listening through that. It isn't bad but I definitely need to refine how everything is stored. It's currently a bit of a mess across different folders, different structures, naming schemes, etc.

Other issue I'm sure I'll run into very quickly is finding new music. Music isn't something I normally spend a lot of time thinking about or looking into, I liked Spotify as it would recommend me new things with little to no effort on my part, if I liked something I'd end up listening to it more and then what Spotify would give to me would expand. But if I'm not using it I'll end up getting stuck with the same things since I'd need to go out of my way to find new artists I like and source their discography.

Also need to build out a more expansive locally stored collection in general, as said before I don't have a whole lot saved locally as of right now.

I don't suppose any sushis here would have recommendations on how to find new music without relying on the algorithm?

I think RYM's chart & search functions are the best tools available of this.

 No.2170

I get my music off Bandcamp, soundcloud, sometimes downloading off of youtube. For listening, I use foobar2000 on phone, and the default media player on Android (if you have any recommendations I'd appreciate them)

Run a Navidrome server (allows for your own music streaming platform) from a remote server and sync all my music from my home server upto there. MPD on my desktop directly from that same home server.

I also maintain a Spotify sub for social/lazy situations where none descript background music is needed. I'm desperate to move from it since it started auto-enabling their retarded playlist shuffle feature where it randomly inserts shit with out me asking it to. Extra risky now they have AI generated music they're not labeling as such to fuck artists out of money. But a lot of artists just don't use other platforms like Tidal.

Getting music, Soulseek, Redacted private tracker and actually supporting people I like by buying their stuff.

Device wise, a few more than I can list. Main ones are LCD-X for home with some minor EQing and 7hz Timeless for out and about ATM. Any one looking for max value should look at the Truthear x Crinacle Zero:BLUE2. Man, £50 for something that sounds that naturally "good" is awesome; highly recommend for anyone.

Oh, and I use Picard and the Musicbrainz DB for properly tagging all my music, forgot and I was just using it lol.
